• More family attractions and year-round programming

• Additional hotels across multiple price points

• Better transportation and easier ways to get around without a car

The idea is simple: if visitors have more to do after 5 p.m., they're more likely to stay another night.

Bentonville is entering one of the biggest periods of investment in its history, with projects including:

• The new Walmart Home Office

• Crystal Bridges' expansion

• The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine

• Heartland Whole Health Institute

City leaders believe those investments create an opportunity to elevate Bentonville from a regional attraction into a nationally recognized destination.

More visitors mean busier streets, higher demand for housing, and added pressure on infrastructure.

But they also bring new restaurants, entertainment, jobs, and tax revenue that help fund amenities residents enjoy.

What's notable about this master plan is that it focuses on attracting more tourists and it focuses on creating the kinds of places locals have been asking for, too.

More shopping, more nightlife, better transportation, and additional gathering spaces would benefit someone who lives in Bentonville just as much as someone visiting for the weekend.

As Northwest Arkansas continues to grow, Bentonville's challenge won't be convincing people to come: it will be making sure the city grows in a way that keeps its character while giving both residents and visitors more reasons to stay a little longer.
